my creative space

coasters wip

going on holiday tomorrow to stay with sisters and aunties, so i’m whipping up some coasters as gifts for my hosts.  they have old and new fabric on the front and good old blanket on the back (with cotton batting in the middle) . they probably won’t make up for nearlyMabel waking up at 4am with sore teethygums, but hey.

TODAY I LEARNT

sewing without pinning is not clever or smart, it’s just silly and probably a bit lazybones and it results in swearing.  but everytime, EVERYTIME, i still think ‘pins schmins’ and try it anyway.

ironing all clothes, fabrics, and projects with the iron on ‘MOLTEN SUN’ setting and trying to go quick on delicate stuff is not clever or smart, it’s just silly and probably a bit lazybones and it results in swearing. but everytime, EVERYTIME, i think ‘it’ll  be sweet cuz’.   i pressed my first two coasters and BURNT them.

  1. Ha! Molten Sun is the setting my husband uses for everything :-) Thaks for sharing your lessons !

  2. phew! I am not the only lazybones ‘to hell with the pins’ person! your coasters are just lovely!

  3. coasters are such a lovely gift

  4. Valuable lessons but I find these types of lessons are easily forgotten.

  5. Hilarious! The end results look great though.

  6. That’s too funny! I sometimes try to go pin free but yes it always results in swearing. Those coasters look great!

  7. What a classic – I think there are many familiar giggles at the lazybones no pins! I’m one of them – so true-never works!

  8. I’m definitely one for pins, learnt through trial and error!! And my iron, the only time I really bond with it is during sewing. We become great friends, then I put it away and curse that I have to use it!

  9. what a cute and funny post. i love the coasters and i have to say that with 37 sewing years under my belt i have almost perfected pin free sewing. so, don’t give up the quest just yet

  10. Sewing without pinning is so tempting. It’s hard to resist sometimes…. I feel for you!

  11. i too get a bit lazybones sometimes and it always ends up in frowny faces. Will we ever learn???

  12. Molten sun is the only setting on our iron according to the man of the house. Your coasters will make a lovely gift.

  13. thanks for your visit and comment :)
i like your coasters ~ can see how you’d want to skip the pinning stage!

  14. What a lovely gift to receive. The fabric looks fantastic. Enjoy your time!

  15. I never pin if I think I can get away with it! I’ve got a teflon iron show on my iron, which means I can get away with Molten Sun setting for EVERYTHING!

  16. The coasters are looking great :) I saw this thing to go over your iron at the Stitches and Craft show that meant you could use the Molten Sun setting for everything, maybe what Jennie is using. I regret not picking one up because I do that all the time too…
