my creative space

DSCN9865-1

like a few of you, my creative space is on the road this week.  i wanted something small and portable to take with me and i have been inspired to pick up my stitching again.  how could i not be once i saw the hand embroidery network blog?  there are funky embroidery works on there and i love the simple and beautiful pic’s which illustrate a their stitch a day thread(?!?)  they are very nearly as lovely as edward&lilly’s WIP pics.

it reminded me that freestyle embroidery was the reason i picked up a needle again, and that the reason i started making bad habit rabbits was solely to embellish them with thread scars, ciggies, patches and faces.

my grandma gave me her scissors, needle and box of thread when she taught me to embroider (please don’t tell her the box is looking messy, i keep all my thread tails and that’s what this photo shows, honest!) so i am taking them with me.  i used to stitch on the ferry to work so i know its easy to pick up and do a stitch or two in between this and that and chocolate and coffee.  also, i really really want to do some french knots.  i know, it’s very odd.

  2. How great is embroidering??!! My Moo is 8 and loves it since learning it. We only have one hoop though so I have to wait for her to hurry up and finish… hehe

  3. What a great idea for my next trip away!

It’s been years since I picked up a hoop.

  4. What a wonderful space :) I love embroidery too… it has a special appeal all of its own I think – detailed enough to keep you challenged and so rewarding a result. I love that you have your grandma’s kit :)
Rebecca’s stitch work is the best, isn’t it? Have you seen the work of Renilde? Her link (for her amazing pin cushions) is:

Thanks for the hand embroidery link :) K

  5. I hope you enjoy whereever that road is taking you and you find what you are looking for…. even if it is just relaxation! There is a different satisfaction with hand embroidery than machine sewing. Maybe because it is all done by you…?? Good luck with those french knots!

  6. How lucky you are to have your grandmother’s sewing things.

  7. Oh my god, now I feel really inadequate with my basic embroidery stiching!! These links are awesome. How is that Edward and Lilly girl? Just beautiful…

Happy stiching. Look forward to seeing the finished product.
